Psychotherapy & Counselling in Newbury and Marlborough
I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist offering psychotherapy and counselling in Newbury and Marlborough, and am also currently in the process of sourcing space in Hungerford.
Working with a psychotherapist can help you make sense out of whatever might be troubling you or dampening your experience of life and can help you understand why you feel the way you do. Most importantly for me, psychotherapy offers a safe space to explore yourself and to gradually, at your own pace, learn to be with, accept and express yourself more fully. Instead of remaining controlled and overwhelmed by your emotions, or numb and distanced from them, you can become free to let them come and go; to live in peace with yourself, and whatever experiences have been heightening your distress, including those still impacting on you (either consciously or unconsciously) from your distant or more recent past. In essence you can learn to have more compassion for yourself and thus live more fully in the present moment.
I also use elements of mindfulness in my practise which I see as incredibly valuable in this process. This places emphasis upon being present with our emotions as they are felt in our body (on what is commonly referred to as our “felt sense”). What is particularly valued is opening to the fullness of our experience and learning to pay attention to and stay with what our body feels in a spacious and kindly way.
Psychotherapy and counselling sessions with me last 50 minutes each with a view to continuing on a weekly basis as an ongoing process of exploration, discovery and personal development. I offer a confidential, supportive and non-judgemental environment for this exploration to take place. I also offer the initial session for free if you choose not to continue afterwards, so it gives you a chance to get a bit of a feel for the process and for working with me before making any financial commitment.
I have experience in helping clients who have had difficulties with:
However, I would emphasise that psychotherapy is not only for those with a diagnosable psychological issue, or for someone who can be labelled as having something 'wrong' with them. Essentially it can benefit anyone who wants to get more out of life and who is prepared to explore themselves with an open mind.
